Hey Guys!
This past month has been filled with a ton of great events by communities all over the continent, and one of those was the first Anniversary of the .NET Dominicana Community an event filled with love and excitement for what we have achieved and what is to come in the future of our community.
When we started to think about what could we do for our anniversary, at first we were thinking of doing another .NET Day, but once we thought a little more about it we came to the conclusion that what we actually needed was a recap and a place where we can all meet up, have some good food and drinks, give feedback and appreciate all the help and support we have received throughout the year from all the different kind souls that have gifted us their time and effort into sharing their knowledge with the community and encouraging them to be better each day.
We decided to host our Anniversary at a local Bar & Lounge in the Dominican Republic called Mantra, where our attendees could be comfortable and socialize with each other but also we had a great projector ready for our presentation in which we presented the following cool statistics we gathered from all our work this past year 🥳
2018-2019 DotNetDo Achievements🎯
- 10 Talks🗣- We are really proud of the range of topics we got to cover and learn about from our community members this year, we had 10 great talks ranging from Mobile Development, Web, Backend services, clean code all the way to DevOps and how we could change the team culture to enable this is our projects. Definitely a year full of great community-driven content.
- 4 Workshops🛠- We also had the opportunity of hosting a few amazing workshops for our members to get hands-on experience with tech they might not be able to experience otherwise since they might be working in a totally different field at the moment we had Workshops for Kubernetes from Zero To Hero, QA from Zero to Hero, CI/CD using App Center, and How to build our first Rest API using .NET Core.
- 3 New Yearly Events🎟- As a Community, we know the importance of engaging with professionals from all levels nationals and internationals included but we also know sometimes 2 hours is not enough time for us to learn a topic in-depth and have a good overview of it so we decided to support and host yearly events that would allow us to do just that! We had the opportunity of hosting
- .Net Day – This event was our first community event and a whole day filled with .NET Goodness, and great speakers including some of our international .NET Buddies James Montemagno, Jim Bennett and Laurent Bugnion who kindly came to our event filled with knowledge and swag ready to share with us all.
- Global Azure Bootcamp – This was a great event that gave us the opportunity of teaching our community members more about all the goodies azure has to offer us and how we are actually not just a local community but we are part of a global community and there are many more members that are also learning just like us and interested in collaborating and meeting up aswell.
- DevOps Day – Later on, the year our community was eager to learn more about what really is DevOps? and how they could get started with it, so we decided to ally with the Linux Dominicana Community to create a day filled with DevOps hands-on talks and workshops where our attendees could go from Zero to Hero in DevOps and ease the process of getting started.
- Having in total more than 1200+ attendees this year in all our events👩🏽💻👨🏽💻- We can’t thank enough all the support we received from our community members throughout the year, we are overwhelmed with the response we have received and are proud to let you all know that more than 1200 of you came out to play and made of our events a blast! 🙂
- 24 Speakers🗣- Thank you to all of our amazing speakers for standing up to the plate and sharing your knowledge with the community we all appreciate your time and all the goodies we learned thanks to you 🥳

- DotNetDo Joined .NET Foundation 🥰 – One of the milestones that filled us with the most joy was becoming a part of the .NET Foundation and joining all of the other .NET Communities under it, making our members feels an integral part with the Global .NET Community, we really appreciate the support provided to us by the .NET Foundation and we hope to continue working towards making it a better place for all the communities to join and get support when needed.
Upcoming for 2020🎁👨🏽💻👩🏽💻
More Yearly Events
We are looking forward to continuing with our yearly events and why not also include some new ones to the mix like our DotNetDo Anniversary, Monkey Fest LATAM and a Xamarin Tour in the Dominican Republic.
- .NET Day – A day packed with .NET Goodness accompanied by International and Local speakers sharing all their knowledge in .NET technologies and how we can apply them daily.
- Monkey Fest LATAM – An event created by the Xamarin LATAM Community for the Community hosted in Medellin Colombia, in which we had the opportunity of helping out, we wanted to continue supporting this great initiative so we are hosting it next year in the Dominican Republic you can’t miss out! 😀
- DevOps Day – A great day filled with DevOps Goodness allowing you as an attendee to go from Zero to Hero and get started with DevOps.
- Global Azure Bootcamp – A great day filled with Azure Goodness allowing you as an attendee to go from Zero to Hero and get started with Azure Services.
- DotNetDo Anniversary – It’s our year recap and party event where community members can come out to hang out and just celebrate all our good moments throughout the year and learn what’s coming new next year.
- Xamarin Tour (Dominican Republic) – We love doing mobile development with Xamarin, and we would like to share the goodness of this tech with all the members of our community in our country but we know that some of you live far and maybe don’t have the availability of coming down to the capital for our events, so we are taking our events to you and decided to do a tour in the country going to the main provinces to give access to all to this knowledge and allow our members to get started with Mobile Development☺️
More Events formats
- Livestreams – A lot of our community members have asked us to live stream our events, like we use to when we were organizing other communities because some of our members are sadly not living in the country, or can’t make it to the meetings and also members of other .NET Communities worldwide would like to access the talks we are giving, so we are happy to announce that in 2020 we are going to be live streaming our monthly talks and making them available in the DotNetDo Youtube Channel.
- Webinars – We have also would like to increase the collaboration with International communities and speakers, so we are looking into creating our first webinars in 2020, so keep an eye out for the upcoming events!
- Panels – We have also noticed that community members would like to have a closer approach with our speakers, or discuss certain topics and see the different points of views in them we all have, so we are going to be hosting panels so we can all have this space for poking each other brains 😛
Community Support and ways to help out🥰
DotNetDo Merch Shop🙈
Our motto is to always have our events created by the community for the community, we have always wanted all our events to be free for all because we understand that everyone has to start from somewhere and not everyone has the same possibilities and we all started from the ground up. but creating events is sadly not always free of cost for us as organizers most of the time we try to cover the expenses ourself if we don’t find sponsors for the event but we know other members of the community would also like to find a way to support the events and provide funding for upcoming activities so everyone can enjoy and have a great time, so we have decided to create a Merch shop which will serve as a way of gathering funds for our events and also providing our community members with some great swag they can wear and have fun while remembering their community ☺️
Collaborators Group🦸♀️🦸♂️
You can now also help out even more by being part of the collaborator’s group and taking on a role inside the community by helping out in different aspects including some of the following:
- Taking Photos
- Creating Event Designs
- Mentoring
- Becoming a Staff
- Giving Talks
- Creating the community website
- Social Media Management
DotNetDo Appreciation Awards🎖
Organizing a community is no easy task and even though it may say we are 4 Co-Organizers, but achieving all these great milestones is no job for only 4 people we received so much support throughout the year from a ton of great community members that know all of us are the community and we have equal responsibility with keeping it going, so we wanted to take a brief minutes to show our appreciation for all their support and that we are really thankful for having them as part of our family the following members and awards where:
- Monthly talk with highest attendee rate (85+ attendees) – Eury Perez Belter
- Super Staff++ – CEISS 2018-2019
- The one who is always willing to give us a hand – Alberto Morillo
- The one that never misses an event – Jahdiel Velez
- The one who has always supported us since day 1 – Juan Jhordanny Hernandez
- The Legit Sponsors! 😛 – Ariel Gomez (Evopoint), Stanley Lara (Solvex)
Thanks to every single one of you that allowed DotNetDo to become one of the top tech communities with one of the best environments and members in the Dominican Republic in such a short period of time, we really appreciate all of you and wish we can continue collaborating with you on this upcoming year to make all our plans for the community a reality once more🥰🙌
